a message from the Kascak Family...

On behalf of my mom Kim, my sister Amanda, My Grandma Anna, and Myself (ashley), we would like to thank everyone for all the incredible loving support we have received! It has been a very difficult time and we have managed to gather some much needed strength for my dad through all of your thoughts, well wishes and prayers! After the longest 2 days of our lives, the doctors finally managed to co-ordinate all of my dad's surgeries in one go, as previously stated, which is what we were praying for. Dad is now heavily sedated in ICU as he begins his healing process. Due to the extent of his injuries he is expected to stay in Kelowna Regional hospital for 2 to 4 weeks. The surgery included a tracheotomy in his neck to help him breath, and a rod has been put in his leg below his knee in order to mend that break. My dads face took the hardest blow, all bones were broken and his face has been put back together with many metal plates around his eyes, his cheeks, and his jaw is wired shut. Any other injuries will have to heal on their own. His surgery went very well, and even though he is very swollen and bruised, my dad is starting to look a lot more like himself, especially because the doctors did not shave off his moustache or his go-tee. The grace of God has kept my dad alive, and even though he will be in a lot of pain, he will recover. The doctors have notified us that there is no signs of possible brain damage, and no serious spinal injuries, but there will be further tests and they will continue to monitor these areas because of the obvious need for precaution.  My dad has touched a lot of people, he is a very special man, and we know all of you would like to find out how he is doing. We appreciate all of the calls, but we would like to let you know it is very difficult for us to speak to everyone due to the mass amount of people who love my father and hold him close the their hearts. We hope this blog will allow you to keep updated with Jan's long road to recovery. Thank you Melody Hilman for beginning this blog for everyone! Between a few of us, we will continue to keep this blog updated as a voice for my father. Any comments you would like to send out to my dad can be written here and we will definitely let him know! If anyone was thinking of sending him gifts or flowers, we ask you to hold off until he is out of ICU because they will not be allowed in. Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts, please continue to pray for dad, because it is the best medicine for him right now!

Lots of love, The Kascak Family

You are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. "Every fairy tale has a dragon or two" and all of us here at SLMS are behind you as you fight this dragon back to good health.

Be well,
